organic sound

Whether it be the sounds of birds, crickets, water, the wind, or even the frequency of Gaia herself, the organic sounds of nature offer a sense of peace.

therapeutic benefits

Nature offers restorative and healing energy. Exposure to the sounds of nature is believed to decrease stress, depression, anxiety, paranoia, and even perceived pain. It can lead to attention restoration and improve cognitive performance.

Schumann Resonance:

Did you know Earth has a heartbeat of its own? This natural rhythm is called the Schumann resonance, created by the Earth's electromagnetic field with a frequency of around 7.83 Hz, which aligns to our alpha and low-theta brainwave ranges.

Attuning to Gaia’s tempo directly through physical touch (i.e. grounding) can offer restorative and healing energies – felt most strongly in the ocean or deep forests. But listening to this frequency is also said to support brainwave entrainment (the synchronization of our brainwaves with external rhythms), helping us reach meditative states and realign with Earth’s heartbeat.

Birdsong:

Birdsong is often said to signal safety. Birds are highly attuned to environmental and predatory threats – when danger is near, they either fall silent, flee, or sound alarm calls. So when birds are singing, it’s a sign that the environment is safe, which in turn signals safety to our nervous system and promotes a sense of calm and relaxation.

Opt for listening to these sounds in nature as opposed to man-made versions whenever possible. If you live in an urban environment or surrounded by heavy noise pollution then a natural soundscape (with headphones on) can serve as substitute. But if you can, head outside and place your bare feet or hands on the Earth to help ground, as electronics emit high-frequency wavelengths that can interfere with the natural electromagnetic fields of the human body.
