The key to self-concept work is authentic alignment – a process of discovering and acknowledging your Soul's truest essence, and then intuitively living from it, trusting its guidance. Without authentic alignment, self-concept work becomes driven by ego, and ultimately the work you do won’t stick. Uncovering your soul’s true essence is an ever-evolving experience peeled back layer by layer over a lifetime. But when done consciously and then actively embodied at each step, an authentically aligned self-concept opens the path to your most empowered (& often pleasantly surprising) way to live.
SIDE NOTE: we recommend completing our Visioning Session, New Beliefs, and Shadow Work exercises before crafting your self-concept to ensure the version of Self you create feels authentically aligned. Get crystal clear on the version of you that feels authentically aligned. Spend some time journaling about that person, detailing aspects like how they: think, walk, communicate, nourish themselves, express themselves, show and receive love, etc. Below are some prompts to guide your exploration:
Now let's bring this person to life in your imagination. Close your eyes and use your mind to see them & your body to feel them. What it’s like to be this version of you? Activate all of your senses as you visualize even small moments in time to truly experience what life is like as this version of Self. Do your best not to gloss over the details – vagueness can lead to aggrandizement. This is the time to trial this version of self, and understand all that can come with it (both joyous and challenging). If you find along the way that you don’t like what’s forming in your mind’s eye, then pivot and explore an alternative direction until you align with the one that feels most like you.
Start taking aligned action as this version of Self. This doesn’t mean go to extremes, but it does mean start showing up as them in the small moments, as often as you can. It's a process of becoming, which means pausing to interrupt your old, default way of being in order to embody the new self. Begin training yourself to be this Self. Ask yourself regularly – how would my most aligned Self act, respond, express, present, think, feel, etc. in this moment? Choose that path. The more you embody this new self internally, the more you'll act as such in your day to day, and in turn, your external world will begin to respond, shaping to align with you. And you'll soon experience support from the Universe in ways you have yet to imagine.
Your self-concept has the power to change your reality. It’s the perception you hold of yourself; it's everything you believe to be true about your identity as a being, including your appearance, personality, feelings, desires, capabilities, worth, values, experiences, history, and more. It directly impacts how you show up in the world, and it guides the decisions you make and the actions you take at every moment – directly shaping your reality.
If you want to change your reality, change your self-concept.
